Bamboobooth 2012 – Exhibition booth

This mono-material exhibition space, conceived by Vo Trong Nghia Architects to expose their projects on the occasion of the 2012 Architectural Exhibition in Hanoi, is a clear expression of the research that the practice has been developing since its foundation, in 2006.
By experimenting with the use of natural local materials,  Vo Trong Nghia’s projects are a synthesis between sustainable contemporary design and the essence of Asian architectural expression.

The small space, with a footprint of 3 x 8.6 meters and a height of 4.2 meters, was entirely built by stacking 500 bamboo culms. The choice of the material adopted as well as of the construction system was also suggested by the short time available to build up the booth: the 8.6 meter-long stems were aligned and connected to one another to form the entire envelope, walls, floor, and roof, adapting their length in order to create the entrance. Shorter bamboo culms, cut from 60 to 80 centimeters long, were used like bricks to build the stand sides.
