Interiors. Notes and Figures | Belgian Pavilion
The pavilion of Belgium at the 14th Architecture Biennale develops the theme of modernity by focusing on dwelling interiors; spaces that, being by their nature in constant transformation, effectively express the architectural processes that take place hidden behind the permanence of buildings’ envelopes.
The exhibition is inspired by “Interiors. Notes and Figures”, a book that, following a photographic campaign, has investigated domestic spaces across the whole Belgian territory and shown that also elements of modernity are assimilated and metabolized during the transformation process of interiors developed by their inhabitants.
The exhibition presents some installations, related to some themes identified during the survey, accompanied by pages from the book reporting the real cases that inspired them.

Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014
Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014 is an invitation to the national pavilions to show, each in their own way, the process of the erasure of national characteristics in architecture in favor of the almost universal adoption of a single modern language and a single repertoire of typologies – a more complex process than we typically recognize, involving significant encounters between cultures, technical inventions, and hidden ways of remaining “national”.
