14th Venice Architecture Biennale | Absorbing Modernity
    14-14 – Pavilion of Serbia

The pavilion of Serbia at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale is based on the dynamic contrast between two opposed poles, embodied by a very bright day-lit central space and an extremely dark gallery encircling it.
Within the central room, which luminosity is further emphasized by its orange-colored walls, one hundred architectural designs, depicting a century of Serbian history, are displayed.
The selection was based on the historical importance of the projects as well as on their intrinsic architectural quality. In the surrounding darkened space one project only is presented: the 1961 design by Vjenceslav Richter for the Museum of the Revolution of Nations and Nationalities of Yugoslavia. The museum was never completed and today only the foundations and the underground level are still visible, as a memento of the vicissitudes of the Yugoslavian people.
