Olab – table lamp

“To give light a sense of immateriality as if it was only a breeze… Hide the underlying technique to magnify the magic of the piece. The frame is elongated by the ball of light that tries to escape. Beyond its functional side, Olab raises curiosity and becomes an object of desire. It tells a story…” 2012, Grégoire de Lafforest

The lamp as an elevation.
The structure prevents the balloon to fly away. Immateriality of the light that seems like it is blown into the balloon. The pear triggers the light through a breath of wind sent into the colored tube.
Like Anish Kapoor’s works, the lamp is summed up to a raising bubble… (Reference : Anish Kapoor, When I am Pregnant, 1992)

About Grégoire de Lafforest

Although he was originally trained as an interior architect (ESAG Penninghen), Grégoire de Lafforest’s end game has always been to design furniture. This he achieved through his collaboration with some of the most renowned French interior design studios. First at Bruno Moinard’s, where he had the chance to work for the luxury world, and to familiarize himself with expensive materials such as marble, turtleshell, and parchment. Then, as a counterpoint, he immersed himself in the ultra-contemporary universe of Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, made of Corian and lacquer. Today, at Gilles et Boissier, Grégoire is given a cross-disciplinary project management role that gives him the opportunity to
progressively build his characteristic touch and style. In parallel, he works on personal projects for editors such as Cinna, and the galerie Gosserez. Soft and fluid, almost minimal, his creations reflect his personal inspirations and desires, that go towards a sense of simplicity. His pieces of furniture are classic by design, and make use of natural, sober and warm materials. Gregoire de Lafforest’s creation have the charm of timelessness. Grégoire de Lafforest’s personal work already earned him to be selected four years in a row as a VIA laureate.
