San Francisco

Along with being one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the world, San Francisco is widely considered the cultural capital of Northern California, with outstanding museums and exhibition venues dedicated to art, science, design, and history.

The city has some of the oldest museums in the USA, such as The California Academy of Sciences founded only a few years after the state became part of the Federation, and some of the newest and most innovative ones, such as the just expanded San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Many museum buildings were renovated and technically upgraded after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Together with a diversified program of temporary exhibitions from its museums, San Francisco also hosts lively cultural festivals, such as the SF Design Week, and the SF International Arts Festival.
