The know-how achieved at the EXPO will be shared among the 145 countries, the public organizations, and the corporations participating in the event with the objective to meet a fundamental challenge for a world that is more and more experiencing growing contradictions. If, on one side, many still suffer from hunger (around 870 million people in the 2010-2012 period), on the other there are those who die because an unhealthy and excessive food consumption (about 2,8 million die every year from diseases related to obesity or overweight).

The site of EXPO Milan 2015
On an area of around one million square meters, located in the north-west part of Milan, the exhibition site is organized along two orthogonal axes, the Cardo and the Decumanus, and includes plazas, restaurants, and spaces for events; a town within the city where shows, concerts, workshops, educational programs, conferences, and exhibitions will follow one another.
The “clusters” of Chocolate and Coffee
Traditionally, the participating countries express their presence also by means of architecture; the national pavilions embody the theme chosen by each country and act as a powerful means of content dissemination. At the same time, a temporary pavilion represents an interesting occasion for designers – often selected through architectural competitions – since the ephemeral nature of the buildings makes it possible to adopt experimental building techniques, cutting-edge formal proposals, and innovative concepts, that are unlikely to be adopted for permanent buildings.
