Postponed by one year because of the pandemic, the 2022 Venice Art Biennale (officially: The 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia) takes place from 23 April to 27 November 2022.
As usual, the event is sited in the two main locations of the Venetian Arsenale and the Biennale’s Gardens (Italian: Giardini della Biennale, also known as Giardini Di Castello), as well as in a number of other smaller venues throughout Venice. Below you can download two maps we have prepared for our readers with the location of the various national pavilions at the Arsenale and Giardini.
Entitled The Milk of Dreams and curated by New York-based Italian curator Cecilia Alemanni, this year’s Biennale Arte investigates a wide spectrum of themes – from climate crises, global pandemics, and social inequalities, to science and the impact of Anthropocene on the planet Earth.
This year, five countries – Cameroon, Namibia, Nepal, Oman, and Uganda – participate in the Art Biennale for the first time, while three others – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan – participate for the first time with their own pavilion.
Awards
The jury of the 2022 Art Biennale awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation to Great Britain and the Golden Lion for Best Participant in the International Exhibition The Milk of Dreams to Simone Leigh.
